After the Baptism of Jesus and John the Baptist was put in Prison, Jesus entered His own ministry, His message was the same as John the Baptist (Matthew 4:17) until Israel rejected Him as being their Messiah in Matthew 12. What about the message of Jesus to Israel before they rejected Him. Note a few things concerning the Gospel of the Kingdom. The repentance called for a national repentance. The Old Testament teaches that the Messianic Kingdom cannot be set up until Israel as nation repents. Israel cannot receive the blessings from God the Father unless they do such repentance.
The Message of John the Baptist was Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. In the background, the Old Testament teaches that there is to be an earthly and visible kingdom over which the Son of Man is to rule (Daniel 7" 1-14, 2:34; 44-45, Jer. 23:5, Zech. 14.9) At the time of the birth of Jesus, the Messiah, there was a wide spread expectation of the coming of the Messiah. Simeon and Anna waited in the Temple for the Consolation of Israel. The Wise Men came inquiring where is He that is Born King of the Jews. Whey they found Him, they worshiped Him as King and Messiah.
We must distinguish between the kingdom of God and Heaven. The Kingdom of God is the reign of God in the universe over all His created creatures and includes time and eternity, heaven and earth. It is spiritual and comes not with observation (Luke 17: 20-21). It is entered by the New Birth (John 3:5) and is not meat and drink but righteousness and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost (Romans 14:17) On the other hand, the Kingdom of Heaven is a New Testament term and is found in Mathews Gospel only, where it is mentioned thirty-two times. Its character is described in the twelve kingdom of heaven parables given (Matthew 13: 1-50, 18: 23-25, 20: 1-14, 22: 1-16, 25: 1-30).
Let us consider the Kingdom of the Messiah. It is clear from the Bible that God has been trying to set up a visible kingdom on this earth ever since the creation of man, to whom He gave dominion. But the dominion was lost by the fall in the garden of Eden and Satan set himself up as the prince of this world. (Matthew 4: 8-10, John 14:30)
